MUSIC PROJECTS - September 14, 2009

*Jorge sylvester ACE Trio:

 Original Compositions and Arrangements written specifically for Alto Saxophone, Electric Bass, and Drums . The ACE Trio utilizes the Rich Spectrum of Rhythms from Africa and the Caribbean as a vehicle to create New and Undiscovered Rhythmic-Melodic Lines

*Jorge Sylvester & The ACE Collective:

The ACE Collective is a group of improvising musicians created and led by saxophonist/composer/arranger Jorge Sylvester. An extension of the ACE Trio (alto saxophone, electric bass and drums), the ACE Collective includes three additional independent rhythmic and melodic elements; the voice, trumpet and piano expanding its harmonic colors, its scope of sound and its textural capacity. The music is original and draws from the Afro-Caribbean Diaspora, jazz and the free music art forms.

*Jorge Sylvester Trio Imagination:

The Trio Imagination is my Acoustic trio, with Bassist Jeff Carney and Drummer Gene Jackson. This trio explore all types of compositions that deals with the function of the Alto Saxophone, Upright Bass and Drums as an independent texture, and also as a collective sound of expression. Most of these compositions are originals, and they're some versions of arrange jazz standards. The goal is to be fresh and in the moment!

*Jorge Sylvester MusiCollage:

 The MusiCollage group was created for my first recording (MusiCollage) as a leader.  It started as a Quartet, and expanded in to a Quintet/Sextet/Septet.

The basic instrumentation is Alto Saxophone, Electric Guitar, Vibraphone, Upright Bass and Drums. Depending on the musical situation it could be expanded with the addition of a Trumpet player (Sextet) and a Percussionist (Septet).

All of the music are original compositions, that deals with combine Afro-Caribbean Rhythms and Straight-ahead Jazz concepts.

*Jorge Sylvester Quartet:

 The Quartet was develop within the MusiCollage group using the vibraphone or the Electric Guitar, with the addition of the Alto Saxophone, Upright Bass and Drums.

The compositions are originals dealing with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, combine with straight-ahead jazz concepts, and some arrangements of Jazz standards.

 

*The ConceptualMotion Orchestra:

The ensemble is an eclectic group of 20 of New York City’s improvisers from the US and around the world who masterfully interpret the original compositions of Jorge Sylvester and Nora McCarthy .

The primary goal of the ConceptualMotion Orchestra is to bring together the free, contemporary, classic, indigenous, and new music art forms. The ultimate goal of the compositions is constructive movement, i.e. forward progression and expansion; creating works filled with the architectonic spirit that is at the center of all creative art forms. Conducted, Orchestrated and Arranged by Jorge Sylvester, the music challenges traditional formulas that are often subscribed to by other large ensembles. The Innovative and daring concepts that drive the music utilize a full spectrum of colors, textures and movement to create a tangible image. The music is a mixture of obtuse compositional structures, open form blues and Afro-Caribbean charged rhythmic pieces within a free collective expression that includes poetry.

 

* A Small Dream In Red *( Voice & Alto Saxophone Duo ):

 A Small Dream In Red debuted September 10, 2001 at the Knitting Factory in New York. The Duo explores visual elements from a musical standpoint, in a totally free environment. The repertoire has expanded to include their original compositions, jazz deconstructions, a composition based on a sculpture of a NY artist, Steven Dono named Piano Jazz, and encompasses several interpretations of Kandinsky’s work namely: Composition VIII, Lyrical, Small Dream In Red and Yellow, Red, Blue combined with deconstructions of jazz standards and music drawn from many diverse sources that communicates via counterpoint and obtuse harmonics.
