The purpose of this Blog is to talk about the Music of The ACE Collective, The ACE Trio and the historical Link between the Avant Jazz, the Afro - Caribbean music and experimentation.
The ACE Collective utilizes the rich spectrum of rhythms from the Caribbean and other Latin American countries as a vehicle to create new and undiscovered rhythmic melodic lines within the jazz tradition. Collective and Free improvisation is an essential part of the concept utilizing juxtaposition and retrograde as main components of the experimentation. Afro – Caribbean rhythms and their relationship to avant – garde music form have not been documented. Unlike the work of composers such as Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and others who used Afro – Caribbean rhythms in their works without experimenting with their rhythmic pulse, the compositional structure of the music of the ACE Collective goes beyond an absolute interpretation, and delves deeper into the core of the rhythms breaking them down and expanding the pulse into a myriad of complex configurations that tap into the original primal properties of the music itself, reflecting its history and its origin, unraveling its many transmutations and adaptations over time and discovering new possibilities and applications within the tradition itself that are related to the avant – garde.

The expressionist master Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), who painted the masterpiece, Small Dream In Red (kleiner traum in rot) in 1925, believed that the relationship between colors and sounds, between music and painting, is not only theory but actually exists; and all I can add is that when I saw the painting in a museum many years after it was painted, I looked at it and "heard" it … just as its painter wished it to be viewed … visually and aurally … abstract to be sure but closer to tangible palpable physical material reality, than reality itself. The music of A SMALL DREAM IN RED comes from that reality, exploring visual elements from a musical standpoint – repetition, inversion, variation, dynamic intensification and diminution translating visual impressions into aural terms. The music is inspired and imbued with life, consisting of primal earthen tones and elements with slightly representational associations.” Nora McCarthy

The ensemble is an eclectic group of 20 of New York City’s improvisers from the US and around the world who masterfully interpret the original compositions of Jorge Sylvester and Nora McCarthy .
The primary goal of the ConceptualMotion Orchestra is to bring together the free, contemporary, classic, indigenous, and new music art forms.
The ultimate goal of the compositions is constructive movement, i.e. forward progression and expansion; creating works filled with the architectonic spirit that is at the center of all creative art forms. Conducted, Orchestrated and Arranged by Jorge Sylvester. The music challenges traditional formulas that are often subscribed to by other large ensembles. The Innovative and daring concepts that drive the music utilize a full spectrum of colors, textures and movement to create a tangible image. The music is a mixture of obtuse compositional structures, open form blues and Afro-Caribbean charged rhythmic pieces within a free collective expression that includes poetry.

On May 31st, my musicians friends in Madrid had a Big Reunion, to Celebrate all the Great Musical Journey, and Exploration of Creative Concepts that came out of a Musical movement that took place in the Underground of a Club by the name of "RAICES" and "El Birimbao"
It was there where it all started, and i was a part of the movement back in Madrid in 1976 when i was living there.
